Let’s talk Sophia, shall we?
We’re predicting that 2019 is the year of Sophia- the Sophia Collection, to be exact. After gaining industry recognition at BDNY near the end of 2018, it is clear that Sophia is here to stay! And we could not be more excited about it.
We’ve talked about her greatness before, but this time around, we are sharing a more in-depth look at the inspiration behind the Sophia Collection: Sophia Loren, herself.
With more in common than not with our beloved Audrey, Sophia Loren is a legend in her own right. At 84 years old, she continues to inspire the custom tile culture we, here at Audrey Lane, strive to cultivate.
Now, it’s time to get to know Sophia a little bit better.
Sophia Loren was very proud of her Italian heritage. She was so proud, in fact, that she was known for paying homage to her roots on a regular basis via foodie love. Not only would Sophia prepare her favorite dishes, but she actually ended up releasing a few cookbooks, including “In the Kitchen with Love” and “Eat with Me.” These must-have books aren’t just about the food, however. Sophia, staying true to Italian culture, believes that food is about more than just filling our bellies. It’s about family, community, and experience. One of Sophia’s top foodie secrets: just add fennel and sweet basil.
“Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti” -Sophia Loren
Girl power pusher
In a time when women weren’t known for “making their own way,” Sophia blazed a trail with her award-winning acting. She signed a five-picture deal with Paramount in 1958 that would solidify her international stardom. Sophia’s gift for performance and exotic persona were the cherries on top of a perfectly imperfect brand. Arguably one of the greatest actresses of all time, Sophia lit a torch for girl power before the term even existed.
"You have to be interesting, someone who is different to other people.” -Sophia Loren
Among her many accomplishments, Sophia has always been vocal about her determination to break into show business- and beyond that, sustaining success. She often shares stories about rejection or how photographers/directors would pick apart her image, telling her that she’d never make it. Sophia persevered and continued to do what she loved. Through it all, she has become a household name the world over, won countless awards, and made a home for her family- and like Sophia always says, she owes it all to spaghetti!
"I'm starting to count the hours, count the seconds; everything is important when you reach my age.” -Sophia Loren, on her 80th birthday
